“Oh, hey, you are my suite-mate!” was the first sentence to the first friend I met at Timmer dorm in Kuyper College premises. 11 years have passed and we have been there for each other at different stages of our lives.
There are some friends with whom many days, several months or years will have passed between conversations, but at every encounter, it will have never felt that there was ever a gap. One of those friends is my first “sweet mate.”
This month was my sweet mate’s birthday also. I wanted to do something to celebrate her birthday. With having a family with two busy and young kids, I know how life can get crazy. I put myself in her shoes and wondered what I wanted when I was living her life. I, too, had two young and busy boys at one point of my life. I mean, I still have a similar life but just a little different, I guess. My boys are a little bit older now and somewhat independent.
She drove me to the hospital as I was about to give birth to my first child. I remember you for many simple and major things like these. You are so cherished, my friend!
I remember not wanting to make dinners and wishing I would have some time to just get away with my girlfriends. I proposed this to her and she was all about it. Yay! It was a joy to serve her family to dinner and just the two of us drove downtown to a coffee-shop and had such a good time.
We reminisced about our college days when we were single and went on long walks, drives, coffee dates etc., whenever we wanted. This friend does mean a lot to me. That last leg of my college life as a transfer student, all I wanted to do was finish school and marry the man of my dreams. I was lovestruck!🙂 She was someone I could go to and I didn’t ever think I needed more friends as she was a wonderful friend in one package!🙂
She almost dropped her Guatemala trip for her Cross-Cultural Studies to fly to Nepal to be in my wedding. She drove me to the airport to pick up my husband when he first landed at GRR airport. She drove me to the hospital as I was about to give birth to my first child. I remember you for many simple and major things like these. You are so cherished, my friend!
